Adult involvement in the District

In the Ginninderra District we value family involvement.  We aim to hold several family events each year. We also encourage parents to support their daughters Guiding in the following ways:
  *  By training to become a Girl Guide Leader
  *  By becoming a Parent Liaison for their daughter's unit
  *  By training to become a QM for camps
  *  By volunteering to help at unit meetings
  *  By attending meetings of the Support Group
  *  By donating old mobile phones to our mobile phone recycling program

I would like to become a Girl Guide Leader:

    1. Send us your details by completing the Contact Us page on our website.
    2. One of our District Managers (Kaz or Laura) will be in contact with you to make a time to meet and discuss Guiding, training, and the range of options that are available to adult members of Girl Guides.
    3. If you decide to continue, you have two weeks to complete the Guides NSW/ACT Membership form and pay the annual membership fee. By completing this form and making the payment you will become a member of Girl Guides Australia. A large component of this payment is insurance to cover you in case of an accident.
    4. You will receive a membership card which we would appreciate you showing to your District Leader as this helps them to record your membership number.
    5. The next step is training – you will receive a Leader’s Journal which will guide you through your training as well as a Guiding Partner to support you through your training.
    6. You will require a Guide uniform which is available through the Guide Shop, Newman Street, Yarralumla 2600, opening hours and contact details are available here. New uniforms can also be purchased online here.
    7. You will make your Promise as a Girl Guide at a special ceremony arranged by either the District or your Unit.
    8. Once you have completed your training you will be a fully qualified Girl Guide Leader with the whole world just waiting for you to explore with your girls.

The Parent Liaison Role

In the Gininderra District we aim to have a Parent Liaison representative for each unit to help with communication between the parents of the unit, the Leaders and the District Support Group. The Parent Liaison helps the leaders with account keeping; reports on unit activities and concerns to the Support Group and likewise reports Support Group news to the unit leaders and parents; coordinates unit involvement in Support Group fundraising; and promotes and enhances parent involvement in the unit and communication with the unit leaders. To thank Parents for taking on this role the District offers a 20% discount on District fee contributions. If you are interested in becoming a Parent Liaison representative please talk to the Unit Leaders or email us via the Contact Us page.
